A Commissioner of Oaths is someone authorized to administer oaths, affirmations and solemn declarations for people making affidavits or statutory declarations. In Michael’s office, there are two: Michael, as your Member of Provincial Parliament, and Andrew Lauer.
Both Michael and Andrew serve as Commissioners of Oaths for the purposes
of witnessing certain legal documents, including vehicle transfers,
deeds, insurance claims, and Canada Pension Plan documents. As
well, they can certify documents such as birth, death and marriage
certificates as 'true' copies. However, the commissioner is
not a 'Notary Public' and cannot sign any documents which require the
certification of a Notary Public.
